Positron Production by Laser Light
نویسنده
چکیده
A signal of positrons above background has been observed in collisions of a low emittance GeV electron beam with terawatt pulses from a Nd glass laser at nm wavelengths in an experiment at the Final Focus Test Beam at SLAC The positrons are interpreted as arising from a two step process in which laser photons are backscat tered to GeV energies by the electron beam followed by a collision be tween the high energy photon and several laser photons to produce an electron positron pair These results are the rst laboratory evidence for inelastic light by light scattering involving only real photons Supported by DOE Grant DE FG ER See Acknowledgments z c by Kirk T McDonald

Effects of Diode and He-Ne Laser on In Vitro Production of Anthocyanin in Apple Cell Suspension Culture
Plant cell cultures could be used as an important tool for biochemical production, ranging from natural pigments to pharmaceutical products. Anthocyanin is affected by a variety of factors. Light, an important plant environmental factor, influences the anthocyanin production in vegetative plant tissues. Here, we have investigated the influence of the blue laser-diode (BLD) and red laser-He Ne (...

Pair production can be triggered by high-intensity lasers via the Breit-Wheeler process. However, the straightforward laser-laser colliding for copious numbers of pair creation requires light intensities several orders of magnitude higher than possible with the ongoing laser facilities. Despite the numerous proposed approaches, creating high-energy-density pair plasmas in laboratories is still ...

Expressions for the yield of electron-positron pairs, their energy spectra, and production rates have been obtained in the interaction of multi-kJ pulses of high-intensity laser light interacting with solid targets. Peak laser intensities of 1:3 10 W/cm have been achieved corresponding to a value of 0.3 for the parameter = E?=Ecrit where E ? = 2 Elab is the electric eld s...
متن کاملPositron Production in a Plasma Wakefield Accelerator
In a visit on Oct. 28, 1996 to the Center for Ultrafast Optical Studies at U. Michigan I had interesting conversations with Gerard Mourou and Don Umstadter about possible mechanisms for positron production in a plasma that is illuminated with a strong laser. I argue that positron production via a trident process (which includes Bethe-Heitler pair production) involving an isolated nucleus is pos...
